ARM9 based industrial serial router adopts KaeilOS® linux

24.January.2007 Koan - koan [Letto 2572 volte]

On January 2006 RGM S.p.A. started developing a new system with the aim of data collecting and transfer from remotely dislocated devices (e.g. Energy Stations), based on an Open Source operating system.

An ARM processor (Atmel® AT91RM9200) and the Linux operating system have been selected as the two best solution to the needings.

RGM S.p.A. itself developed the hardware, according to some precise targets: Performance, Cost, Critical Environmental Conditions, Dimensions, and due to these requirements choosed KaeilOS® the Industrial Grade Linux from the European embedded software market leader KOAN, for the development of all system components like Bootloader, Linux OS adaptation and device drivers development.

The project was completed by mid 2006 and the functional tests demonstrated that the skills implemented are responding to the specifications requirements.
The system is currently employed in hundreds of operating units on the field.

Typical applications are:

  • Routing
  • Data acquisition
  • Alarms monitoring and logging

Carrying on its tradition in custom products, RGM S.p.A. will offer these customized solutions to clients who want to add connecting capabilities to their systems, following them in the engineering of the specialized hardware.

The platform features and specs are the following:
